foam New with the All Access Pilates Pass…
Lower Leg Stretch Series Learn my favorite sequence for unwinding the lower legs! You’ll open up, stretch, & release your calves, ankles, feet, etc and hopefully feel the effects throughout your body. It’s about 12 minutes long and uses a half foam roller, but you could always roll up a towel to mimic the half roll if you don’t have one. Here’s a link for where you can get a half roll:https://www.optp.com/AXIS-Black-Roller The one I’m using is then OPTP Black AXIS Firm Foam Roller - Half 12"x3" Please listen to your body, this should be gentle and maybe a little demanding- definitely NOT painful. If you’re holding your breath, you’re doing too much. You can check out the video here, it can be rented on it’s own or included in your monthly membership. I have a new video out on You Tube!
It's a 5 Minute Foot Roll Out for Fast, Effective Foot Pain Relief In this video, I share a simple, effective foot rolling sequence to improve foot mechanics, decrease foot tension, plantar fascia pain, and improve motion. All you need is a yoga tune up ball, pinkie ball, or tennis ball. (nothing really firm like a golf ball) You can do this standing or seated. Hope you find it useful! It’s summer, so here’s my usual reminder about flip flops…
If you’re going to wear them, PLEASE make sure to add in some time to undo the havoc they wreak on your feet. Wondering what the heck I’m talking about? Here’s an excellent post by the amazing Katy Bowman. It even has pictures of what you can do to help offset the effects of flip flops and a link to a list of healthier, alternative choices. I’m slowly breaking in my earth runners, they were great for hiking and walking through the water up at West Fork Trail recently. I might try some unshoes next, especially if I (by some amazing stroke of luck) get to take a beach trip anytime soon. Wishing you a summer full of happy, pain-free feet! Happy Fall, y’all!
Here’s the current info for online Zoom group classes, workshops, and a new community event this month. I’d love to “see” you at all of them! I’ll be doing some more detailed posts and share more info in the newsletter, but if you have any questions in the meantime please don’t hesitate to connect with me. I recently read this article through the NPR app on my phone. The overall takeaway is that the risk is still safer than being sedentary. I totally agree!
However, while I think it is awesome that they are doing the research and finding the correlations between who is likely to get a fracture and how it may impact their lives…… I completely disagree with their advice. “recognize the limits of your strength, he advises, and maybe work on training the dog not to pull on the leash.” What????? I mean, yes- train your dog, but recognize the limits of your strength? How about any or all of the following: - improve your balance - focus on fall prevention - roll out your feet and do some exercises to improve awareness in your feet - learn how to safely increase strength and mobility I could go on and on, but you get the drift. Balance is a skill. It gets better with practice. You can improve your bone density, strength, and gait. How? Pilates! Want to know more?
